Congratulations. You've found some older stuff.

Rain, Rain and More Rain

“So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.” ~ Genesis 6:14

Well, I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as Noah had, but after two weeks of rain, being cooped up in the house with a bi-polar dog, I am growing a bit weary and could use some sunshine. It is summertime, is it not? The time of year when you frolic across the lawn, enjoy the outdoors, waterski and go tubing…but just not in your back yard.

You may have heard on the news, on Wednesday morning, the town of Marble Falls received 18″ of rain in a six hour period, completely devastating the town. Marble Falls is only about 70 miles north of us on Highway 281. Thankfully, we haven’t had that kind of rain, but it did torrentially downpour here for about five to six hours straight here today and has been raining pretty steady since 3AM. It seems to have let up a bit, but when it rains that heavy here, the dry creek that is the greenbelt to our backyard turns into a raging river.

Anyway, all is okay here, just really soggy, damp and claustrophobic. With so much boredom at hand, I took the opportunity to become friendly with my video camera, so here’s some really, really poor amateur video I shot this morning and afternoon during our rainstorm.

The rain had let up a bit here.

This was probably the peak water flow of the creek. It’s hard to make out, but the water nearly covered the entire area between our development and the development to our North.

The rain had eased a bit and the flow had dropped about 2 feet, but still kind of cool.

And the good news is….more is on the way for tomorrow. Yipee! Maybe I do know how Noah felt after all.

A Brave Warrior

A brave warrior for The Lord has gone to be with Him. On June 13, 2007, Herb Peters passed away from advanced colon cancer. For those who don’t know, Herb Peters worked tirelessly to spread the word about end-time Bible prophecy and ran a website called Fulfilled Prophecy, one of my daily reads and witnessed as he effectively tied current events to Bible significance. It was Herb’s teaching that greatly impacted my perspective on “Rapture Theology” and it’s timing. Thankfully, his daughter, Holly, is carrying on the ministry.

One day later, Ruth Graham, wife of Billy Graham passed away as well. The Billy Graham ministry has, perhaps, done more to bring folks to Christ than any other worldwide ministry and the loss of Ruth is a tremendous blow to their family.

Please keep the Peters and Graham family in your prayers as they carried God’s torch for many years, spreading the good news. May God rest their souls and comfort their families.

It would seem that the Lord is calling home the leaders of His flock. Be watchful, my friends.

The Greatest Gift

Happy Father's DayToday is Father’s Day and today it is our time to honor our fathers and celebrate the joy, the magic and the responsibility of fatherhood. I’d like to thank my Dad for showing me the ropes of life, instilling a strong sense of family, being brutally honest (when I needed it) and demonstrating rock solid values that have been a beacon and guidepost in the darker parts of my life. Whenever I veer off course, it is those foundational elements that I lean on for guidance and clarity.

It has been said that, “The greatest gift a father can give his children, is the gift of opportunity…to enjoy a better life than he.” I have been given that gift many times over, my only hope is that I can continue that legacy with my children and provide them with a life filled with even more opportunities than mine, though that is quite a tall order.

My Dad often tells me how proud he is of me, and being Father’s Day, today is my opportunity to say just how proud I am of my Dad. His life was not easy and he overcame a tremendously difficult childhood to become a successful police officer and business owner. Through all the difficulty and challenges of life, he’s always been there for me and (along with my Mom) has been my rock in life. Dad, I give you my honor, respect and love. Thank you for the greatest gift.

Make sure you honor your father today.
