RIP Principal Richard Vernon
Every generation has a movie that defines a time in their life. For many in the World War II generation, it was “From Here to Eternity” or “Gone With The Wind”. For Gen X (that’s us) it’s no different, coming of age in the 1980’s was a special time. We had the Cold War, Ronald Reagan, Live Aid, Ferris Beuller and of course, “The Breakfast Club”.
Just this past weekend, the actor who played the reviled, Principal Richard Vernon passed away. Though, we obvioulsy didn’t know him, his character will live forever in the memory of our youth. The Breakfast Club, though not an Academy Award winner, captured the mid-1980’s without be pretentious, in a real life comedy-drama. All the makings of a great movie and a slice of American life at the time. Rest in Peace, Mr. Gleason.
Attention Wine Lovers
I’m not a real wine guy, in fact, I never drink it at all, but it is inevitably part of my life, being Italian and all, but I digress. But anyway, for those of you who do love wine, have you ever been confused or overwhelmed by what wine to buy, what’s good or the old “red or white” question?
Introducing Cork’d a brand new site devoted to reviewing and sharing, well…wine (for all you snobs out there). The basic gist of Cork’d is this: after painlessly creating a free account, you’re able to keep track of wines you’ve tried in your Wine Jounal. You can rate, review and tag wines, and these “tasting notes” end up attatched as comments to each wine in the database. You can also build a Shopping List of wines you’d like to buy (think of this like you would a Netflix queue), and a Wine Cellar for wines that you own. Keeping track of what your friends are tasting is as easy as adding them as a Drinking Buddy. You can also recommend wines to your buddies after you’ve rated and reviewed a bottle.
Now if we could just create something like “Foam’d” for us beer guys, now that would be revolutionary.
Anyway, just thought I’d pass along the information to everyone and hope you enjoy your wine.
Another Rainy Day Project
As I mentioned in an earlier post, occassionally I have the opportunity to help out friends with their web projects. This time, my friend, Herb, brought me an idea to revamp web hosting company’s ebay auction ad template. I had worked on his previous template some time ago and considering that Herb runs auctions every week, the old template had probably run it’s course.
Herb is very laid back and pretty much gives me full reign and creative control to come up with a design that I think would suit the project. It’s a lot of fun working with him putting together these things over rainy weekends. Thanks, Herb.
You can check out the complete ad here and see some of Herb’s other auction items for sale. (Click on the links to see the individual ads.)
